Franco Mastantuono's hat-trick headlined a goal-heavy top-5-league weekend — but the valuation model didn't move on it alone

Fiorentina's 19-year-old scored three goals in a 4-2 win at Venezia and posted the highest individual rating (9.98) of any player across the top 5 leagues this weekend, ahead of Kylian Mbappé's 9.42 in a 4-1 Real Madrid win. Two Bundesliga sides won 5-0 on the same afternoon, and Inter survived a five-goal Udinese fightback — but the weekend's best individual performances didn't all move the valuation needle by the same amount.

Franco Mastantuono scored all three of Fiorentina's away goals in a 4-2 win at Venezia — minutes 29, 30 and 84 — for a match rating of 9.98, the single highest of any player in the top 5 leagues this weekend. It capped a weekend short on 0-0s and long on goals: Real Madrid beat Rayo Vallecano 4-1 (Álvaro Carreras, Jude Bellingham and a stoppage-time Kylian Mbappé strike either side of a Sergio Camello consolation), RB Leipzig put five past Hamburger SV without reply, and Freiburg did the same to Borussia Mönchengladbach on the back of a Yannik Engelhardt brace. The single highest-scoring match of the weekend was Inter's 5-3 win over Udinese — a game that swung from 2-0 up for the visitors inside 16 minutes to 5-2 for the hosts before Udinese pulled one back in stoppage time.

Behind Mastantuono, the ratings table reads Mbappé (9.42), Engelhardt (9.36), Antonio Nusa (9.27, one of Leipzig's five), Nicolò Barella (8.86, Inter's midfield conductor through that Udinese chaos) and Edon Zhegrova (8.93) — the last of those on the losing side, having scored twice for Juventus in a 3-2 defeat at Sassuolo. That's the useful contrast for reading this weekend: a brilliant individual performance and a winning team performance aren't the same signal, and Zhegrova is the clean example — an 8.93 rating and a brace, in a game his team lost.

That distinction is exactly what our valuation model is built to separate. Mastantuono's hat-trick sits inside a current valuation of €24.3M — meaningful for a 19-year-old, but a fraction of what a senior-level hat-trick might suggest at face value, because 3,000 minutes of reliable production this season carries more weight in the model than three goals in one match. Zhegrova's brace, likewise, doesn't lift his €9.1M valuation much on its own; his season-long output has been intermittent, and the model is built to reward the players whose Saturday was one data point in a long pattern of doing this every week — like Mbappé (€208.6M) and Barella (€65.1M) — over the players whose Saturday was the pattern itself.
